CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY

FULL HIGHWAY CLOSURE – RAMPS OPEN

STATE ROUTE 33 BRIDGE OVERCROSSING INTERSTATE 5 IN SANTA NELLA

 

MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the State Route 33 (SR-33) bridge at Interstate 5 (I-5) for 43 continuous hours for repairs. All ramps will remain open during the closure.

Work is scheduled beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017, until 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017.

Detours are as follows:

Traveling Northbound on SR-33 to continue on SR-33 (north of I-5)

  1. Take Southbound I-5
  2. Take Eastbound SR-152 off-ramp (loop)
  3. Take Northbound I-5 on-ramp (loop)
  4. Continue on Northbound I-5
  5. Take Northbound SR-33

Traveling Southbound on SR-33 to continue on SR-33 (south of I-5)

  1. Take Northbound I-5
  2. Take SR-140 off-ramp
  3. Turn left on SR-140
  4. Take Southbound I-5
  5. Take Southbound SR-33

Traveling Northbound on I-5 to access SR-33 (north of I-5):

      1. Use normal off-ramp to SR-33 (north)

Traveling Northbound on I-5 to access SR-33 (south of I-5):

  1. Take Westbound SR-152 off-ramp (loop)
  2. Continue on Westbound SR-152
  3. Take Northbound SR-33

Traveling Southbound on I-5 to access SR-33 (north of I-5):

  1. Take Southbound I-5
  2. Take Eastbound SR-152 off-ramp (loop)
  3. Take Northbound I-5 on-ramp (loop)
  4. Continue on Northbound I-5
  5. Take Northbound SR-33

Traveling Southbound on I-5 to access SR-33 (south of I-5):

  1. Use normal off-ramp to SR-33 (south)

This rehabilitation project is designed to improve the road surface, efficiency of travel and safety for motorists traveling throughout Merced County. The sidewalk on the bridge will remain open throughout construction for pedestrians and bicyclists. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be escorted across the bridge to ensure safety during construction.

Emergency vehicles may be escorted across by the California Highway Patrol if required.

Motorists should expect 20 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials and construction related issues.
